Programmes and CostsSocial Auxiliary Work- The course is covered over a 1 year period and consists of 12 Modules, which are divided into 4 Workbooks i.e. Context, People, Intervention and Social Auxiliary Work Practice.
- CONTEXT covers the SA SW context, SW administration and the Purpose, role and function of SAW; PEOPLE covers the SA Judicial system, Human behaviour and People at Risk; INTERVENTION covers all the primary SW methods of Work with individuals, Group work and Community work, and SAW PRACTICE covers the elective of a Community development project and tasks on Integrating all the exit level outcomes.
- During and after the initial training learners are required to complete a number of Formative Assignments. These activities will be both individual and group activities and they are done in class and submitted to the Facilitator as proof of Formative work.
- The Summative Assignments are done directly in the learner Workbook on instruction from the Facilitator and are assessed quarterly by
the assessor.
- Summative Knowledge Assessment Exams are conducted after every Module through the interactive Turning Key system where learners receive real-time feedback / results.
- Learners have to be Competent in ALL Modules and exams in order to qualify and to receive the Certificate in Social Auxiliary Work.

Requirements and Screening- General candidates must have passed grade 10, 11 or 12 and must pass the screening test. The registration form can be downloaded here.
Personal Approach- Life skills refer to personal and professional skills that need to develop in order to be a role model and to work with people in their communities
- All students attend the one-day workshop at the College called ‘Solving the People Puzzle’
- Opportunity is given to complete the DISC personality profile after which you will be assisted to draw up a personal and professional development plan (PPDP)
- You will receive mentoring and guidance from the Social Worker at the organisation to achieve the goals of the PPDP
- The PPDP will be measured after ten months by yourself, your mentor/supervisor and the assessor to ensure that you have reached your personal goals, all the exit level outcomes as well as the critical cross-field outcomes
