Kabelo MalefaneMy name in Kabelo Malefane, a proud Luxe College graduate. It is with great excitement I am writing this letter, to inform and let you know of my time at Luxe College. Having been working in the child and youth care space for a while and doing work responsibilities without any supporting documents was not worth it at the end as you had no proof to show for it. Our NGO, Camp Sizanani Life Skills, offered us a chance to go study and the 1st thing that came to mind was what short course is out there and as we researched Luxe College came up and as they say the rest is history. I figured out that the study program at Luxe makes a person look forward to attending classes as even though you in class 1 day a week the 4days at your workplace are you practically putting in the theory into practice and having your facilitator as your mentor if something comes up. We would write our exams after each module and because it’s a program that accommodates people of different ages and understanding our learning pace and making sure we go forward together and no learner is left behind. Challenges are bound to be there and our greatest challenge at Luxe was the issue of not being accredited in time and us students not completing our school work not realizing the repercussions that will have on other students who finished their work in time. Being a student at Luxe boosted my confidence and made me realize that education is truly a good thing and makes you more employable opening more doors and lastly having facilitators who make sure you pass no matter what is key to any person. If I had to suggest something at Luxe College it would be the introduction of Luxe merchandise, like a t-shirt or hoodie, as this would create extra revenue for the school and new students are always excited to be back in school after such a long time they would definitely buy. With this latest qualification I am hoping to use it to study further and hopefully 1 day come back to Luxe and give motivation any of the classes as this will boost confidence and make learners take their work seriously. |

Hazel De VosGreetings, Hazel De Vos and I was recommended to Khanya College by someone who held them in very high esteem.I registered as a student with the College in June 2010 for the Social Auxiliary Worker course, which I thoroughly enjoyed if I might add.
The lectures, studies and assignments proved most interesting and informative. I found these studies to be beneficial as it equipped and assisted me in understanding the needs of the community, preparing me to handle and understand clients (being sensitive and empathetic to their needs and circumstances) , teaching me to be observant and aware of such needs, knowing when, where and how to refer people, teaching me how to work alongside colleagues and to co-operate to reach the desired goal of assisting disadvantaged and needy people. The Course was challenging and rewarding. It certainly helped me to gain a lot of insight and furthered my knowledge in the field of Social Work. It is also beneficial to be affiliated to the Council for Social Work. It was good to meet fellow students and to share with them. The opportunity to enjoy social interaction and have fun was also appreciated. I found all the Staff at Khanya to be friendly, warm, caring and most helpful. They were always ready and willing to oblige and assist me whenever I needed their help. |

Thokozile EsterMy name is Thokozile Ester, my friends call me Mama Thoko and I am a graduate student of Khanya College.I joined Khanya College February 2010 with the purpose of improving my skill in community development, which I have been involved in since 1993, I then went to study for a certificate in Social Auxiliary work. I was not sure what to expect upon arrival at Khanya College, however the introduction and induction facilitated by the friendly staff made it quite easy for me to adjust into the new academic environment. I believe it is important to have an open mind when intending to join any institution, so as to adapt to changes. The college has aided in improving a sense of self-confidence, discipline and challenged me to go further.
I would like to commend my lecturer Mrs. Keke Stephen for the wonderful work she has done with all her students and personally would like to thank her for allowing me the opportunity to be counselled in the process. I will forever cherish the moments we shared throughout the year and the impact the college staff have had in my life. Khanya College has always given me a sense of family and that is all thanks to every member of staff who were very loving, friendly and always ready to assist learners in need of any assistance. The environment at the college was and is warm and welcoming! |
